Internet Explorer cannot display the web page

In Uncategorized on January 11, 2011 at 12:38 am

You can’t get to any web sites but everything else works, emails, chat, etc.  In some cases this is caused by spyware/malware that puts bogus proxy settings in your Internet options so you can’t access the internet. If this has happened to you then it’s a really simple fix.

Possible Resolution:
Open Internet Explorer and click on the Tools menu and select “Internet Options”.  At the top of the “Internet Options” you’ll see several tab, select the “Connections” tab.  At the bottom you’ll see a button that says “LAN settings”, click it.  The “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” dialog box will open.  If any boxes are checked, un-check them and click “OK”.  Click “OK” again and close the “Internet Options” box.  For the changes to take affect you’ll need to close Internet Explorer.  Open Internet Explorer again and if any of the boxes had been checked, you should now be able to browse websites.

* On a company network with a proxy server it is normal for settings to be in the “Local Area Network (LAN) Settings” dialog box.  If you are on a company network you should call your help desk before making any changes to Internet Explorer.

The error “Internet Explorer cannot display the web page” can happen for many reason and this is only one possible fix.
